No trip to L.A. is complete without a trip to Santa Monica beach. My mom and I had a great time—it was a gloriously sunny day but not too hot, with a nice breeze off the water. We got tired of walking at some point and hired a bike taxi; the guy was hilarious and had been taxi-ing since the 70s. He had some great stories to tell, especially about the literal gangs the homeless population had formed on the beaches. That evening, we had dinner at Moun Of Tunis Restaurant, a halal North African restaurant with very fun decor and incredible food. Having actually eaten Moroccan and Tunisian food in both countries, trust me when I tell you this was authentic. Our server was also a hoot. On the way home we drove up into Beverly Hills, which was super fun—for me, I was driving; less so for my mom (who was nervous for no reason about my driving and how winding the road was). The next day, we went to pray Eid with the local Muslim community in the Exposition Park, which has a gorgeous rose garden. Next post: Stray Kids concert and Santa Barbara!
